| The first rail motor ambulance in Mareeba itself was built by Ambulance Superintendent N. Parker (who was also a fitter and turner) in 1942. It has 4 wheels , is powered by a 5hp JAP engine, and is a platform, 9ft 8ins (2032mm) long, covered by a canopy. In 1946, it was displaced by the second Mareeba car (1926 Dalby RA), and was transferred to to Mt Mulligan, where a new shed was built for it there that year by the Mareeba Hospitals Board. In 1949, it was transferred to Almaden, to serve as a feeder car, and was displaced from there in 1957, again by the second Mareeba Car (the 1926 Dalby RA). It was then donated to the QATB at Gayndah. It is doubtful if it ever worked there, and it was placed in a Folk Museum there about 1975. |
| The second Mareeba Car was the 1926 Dalby RA (Citroen) bought from Dalby in 1946 for 200 pounds ($400). In 1949, on the arrival of the 3rd Mareeba RA (1949 Mareeba RA) It was (the Citroen) transferred to Mt Mulligan, and when mining ceased there in 1957, (it was sent to) Almaden, in both cases as a feeder, and to save time while the Mareeba car was making its way to the area concerned. It was (Citroen) available for use at Almaden until about 1968, but was last used in 1961. It was given occasional trial trips by the local station master and police to ensure its availalbity. |
