Rodney has kindly provided the following information.

ST2 887

I have photo of 887 at "Beta" on the western line, "Beta" is between Alpha and Jericho, I took the photos myself back in February 2007, the day I took the photos 887 was heading back to Barcaldine after doing poisoning duties in Alpha station yard, 887 had a poisen trailer on behind, this trailer was a flat top, I asked the operator would he mind taking a photo of me sitting on it, but, the only problem was he took my photo with the camera facing the early morning sun and my photo was distorted by the sun rays. 887's new unit number is HSC 001.

There was two blokes on this ST2 the day I photographed it at "Beta", one was both ganger / operator, and the other bloke had the hand held or scanner radio to keep in contact with train control. HSC 001 (ST2 887) is based at Barcaldine, according to the operator. The HSC 001 is crudely hand painted on the left hand side front in thin black paint.

In 2004 when it left the Glenmore Fitters depot in Knight Street it was never re-numbered, the photo of 887 on your website shows 887 with a roof on it, this is how I unloaded this vehicle from the Biloela gang truck in 2004. when it got refurbished by an apprentice Diesel Fitter, it came away from Glenmore minus the roof, the roof off 887 was cut off and dumped in the big cleanaway industrial bin. I did how ever save the acrilic sign that was on the vehicle, the sign that read : THIS VEHICLE IS FITTED WITH A DECOMPRESSION LEVER USE IT, I saved this one and I still have it at home here somewhere, it was in really good condition.

It was delivered from Biloela with the two drive chains on it, and it already had a conversion in it to a four stroke motor. This has been the second Fairmont section car that was refurbished at Glenmore while I was at this depot, the first one was MT 14 SP 613, this too was a Apprentice Diesel Fitters project, this one was done back in 2002, this one come away with a case tractor hand brake mounted on the side, I have photos of it as well some where, I do not know what it's QR unit number was though, I do recall it was a piece of s**t when it came in, the Fairmont 2 stroke motor came out and in went a....I think a Briggs & Stratton engine.   I did recall seeing the old Fairmont motor sitting on the floor at the top workshop shed for awhile then one day it just dissapeared, no one knew where it was.

I hope this information might be useful.
